Supervisors when they meet Tuesday will be updated on how big of a reduction in federal funds San Joaquin County will need to deal with as the result of passage of the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act.”

San Joaquin County is expected to lose between $50.9 million to $76.9 million in annual revenue to the County’s budget.

San Joaquin County is uniquely impacted as it has one of 12 California public hospital systems affected by the bill.

That includes reduction of emergency services for Medi-Cal/Medicaid coverage and reductions in State directed payments.

The payments will be reduced 10% in subsequent years until the payments rate is down to Medicare levels.

Those reductions are estimated to cut San Joaquin General Hospital’s revenue by $11 million to $30.8 million annually

Overall, California counties are expected to lose between $6 billion and $9.5 billion annually.

The bill will have significant financial impacts on counties including:

*Incurring new costs to provide indigent health care to individuals who lose Medi-Cal coverage.

*Public hospital systems will face significant reductions in Federal funding that is currently used to provide patient care to Medi-Cal enrollees, which will impact access to all patient care services.

*Counties will incur additional workforce costs to implement the new eligibility requirements.
