Speed factor in fatal motorcycle crash on Yosemite

Speed is believed to have been a major contributing factor to a Monday morning motorcycle crash on East Yosemite Avenue that killed a 45 year-old Lathrop man.

It was the second fatal motorcycle accident in as many months in Manteca. The previous fatal crash was on Main Street.

The motorcyclist — whose name was not released pending notification of next of kin — was eastbound on Yosemite Avenue in the righthand lane. He was coming up on a car.

Up ahead, a westbound vehicle was turning onto southbound Fishback Road.

Police indicated there was plenty of clearance for the vehicle to make the turn based on the posted speed limit.

Witnesses said the motorcyclist had been traveling at a high rate of speed and weaving in and out of traffic prior to the accident.

The motorcyclist was apparently still speeding when he passed the vehicle.

The motorcyclist struck the turning vehicle. The collision, in turn, sent that vehicle into another vehicle.

The drivers of the two other vehicles were not injured.

The motorcyclist died at the scene.
