Plans for a truck terminal in northwest Manteca across from the Union Pacific intermodal facility are being reviewed by the city.
The firm, Sunrise Trucking, already has a terminal on Roth Road north of the UP facility.
The proposed Manteca terminal location is a 28.66 acre parcel immediately north of the former cheese factory and west of where Kiper Homes at Indelicato is building 177 homes next to Del Webb at Woodbridge.
Although the parcel abuts Airport Way, the terminal is being orientated toward Intermodal Way.
It will allow truck traffic to and from the UP facility to access the proposed truck terminal site without having to go on Roth Road.
That also means it would not generate truck traffic on Airport Way south of Roth Road.
Not only that, there will be a small business park similar to those on Moffat Boulevard and on Commerce Drive behind Home Depot facing Airport Way.
It will serve as a buffer to the trucking terminal and truck parking.
The fact distribution centers and trucking operations could access the UP intermodal from the Center Point Business Park was one of the original selling points of the project now anchored by Amazon, 5.11 Tactical, and Penske Logistics (Lowe’s Home Improvement).
The new Sunrise Trucking terminal will be able to capitalize on growth Union Pacific is predicting will occur over the next 30 years based on their expansion.
The projection is truck-train trailer movements would eventually go from the current average of 767 a day to over 2,000 daily.
