Sutter Health plans to open another care center in Lathrop in 2028, this time in the growing River Islands community, to expand access to primary and specialty care services.

“We continue to answer the call as demand grows for our high-quality care services,” said Amber Campbell, Ambulatory CEO for Sutter Health’s Greater Central Valley. “We value our partnership with the city as we expand care for this growing community.”

Construction is slated to begin in 2026 while a groundbreaking ceremony marking the occasion will take place at 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 11, at 1051 River Islands Parkway.

The two-story, 40,000-square-foot facility will be built on a 3.5-acre site centrally located within the town, with convenient access from I-5, I-205 and the 120 Bypass. Surrounded by retail, dining, recreation and public safety services, this location provides a unique opportunity to integrate healthcare within a master-planned community.

The new center will support 18 full-time providers and feature 38 exam rooms for family and internal medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics-gynecology, orthopedics and podiatry, cardiology and behavioral health needs.

Lab and advanced imaging services, including those for CT and MRI, will also be available for added convenience. Enhanced front-door access will help more patients establish ongoing relationships with Sutter providers and encourage those who previously sought care outside the system to return for services closer to home.

Earlier this year, Sutter broke ground on a 7,000 square-foot urgent care center in Lathrop to support walk-in illnesses, injuries and other same-day care needs. When construction is complete, the urgent care center will be open 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. weekdays and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekends.

As a not-for-profit health system, Sutter Health is committed to expanding access to physicians and services across Northern California. This includes communities long served by Gould Medical Group and Sutter Gould Medical Foundation, as well as new and growing cities.

In 2025 alone, Sutter has opened new care centers in Lodi, Manteca, Modesto, Tracy and Turlock — each designed to meet community needs and deliver easier access to high-quality care.
