Jennifer Torres-O’Callaghan will once again serve as vice mayor for the City of Lathrop.
She was re-appointed to the post by Mayor Paul Akinjo at the Dec. 8 Lathrop City Council meeting.
He praised her for her efforts, particularly with services to the local schools, during the past year.
With school safety continuing to be a priority, Torres-O’Callaghan will be counted on to continue those efforts during 2026.
Her appointment by Akinjo was supported by her colleagues.
No vote was necessary since the mayor is the one to conduct the one-year term during the first meeting of December, according to the City Handbook of Rules and Procedures.
In the absence of Akinjo, Torres-O’Callaghan will be the one who will “possess and perform the power and duties of the mayor,” the handbook noted.
She was elected to a four-year term in 2020 after serving an unexpired partial term vacancy two years earlier.
Torres-O’Callaghan, who served on various local commissions – included were Mossdale School Site Council & Safety Committee as well as Lathrop High Site Council and the League of California Cities Public Safety Committee and the National League of Cities Small Cities Council – prior to her time on the Lathrop City Council, was re-elected to another four-year term in 2024.
She’s a longtime local resident with a law degree from Golden Gate University School of Law, and a degree in Rhetoric from the University of California, Berkeley.
