Vehicle blocking River Islands Parkway leads to DUI arrest

The Lathrop Police Department arrested a driver and passenger Saturday on alcohol-related charges.

Officers came across a disabled vehicle that evening blocking the roadway on River Islands Parkway.

“While checking on the occupants, the driver displayed objective symptoms of intoxication,” said local police via social media on Monday.

A short distance away, they also discovered evidence of a single-vehicle collision. “Fortunately, no one was injured,” police said.

They added field sobriety tests were conducted. From that, police determined the driver’s blood alcohol content was “more than twice legal limit to drive.”

The driver was arrested and booked into jail for driving under the influence of alcohol.

A passenger in the vehicle, according to the report, attempted to interfere with the officer’s investigation by refusing to obey commands to stay out of the road.

The passenger was also arrested for public intoxication.

With spring and summer approaching, the Lathrop Police Department is asking folks to plan ahead. “Never drink and drive – always designate a sober driver to arrange for a safe ride home,” police said.
