Watermelon street fair this weekend in downtown Manteca

The weather will be ideal

The vendor space is all filled.

And the watermelons are ripe and juicy.

Everything is pointing to fun this weekend in downtown during the Manteca Chamber of Commerce’s Watermelon Street Fair.

The high Saturday is expected to be 86 degrees with Sunday’s top temperature reaching 88 degrees.

All vendor spaces have been sold for the event taking place Saturday, June 1, and Sunday, June 2, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

There will be 275 craft and commercial vendors plus 40 food trucks and food vendors.

In addition there is free live music and free contests for kids. There is even a free watermelon eating contest for adults.

The kids contests take place at Library Park.

Each day there are free watermelon eating contest at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m.; free water balloon toss at 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m.,  and free watermelon relay races at 11:45 a.m., 1:45 p.m., and 3:45 p.m.

There are four age groups: 3 to 5, 6 to 10, 11 to 14, and 15 to 8.

The free adult watermelon eating contests are both day at noon, 2 p.m., and 4 p.m. in the beer garden in Wilson Park across from the library and behind the Post Office.

Nearby on the entertainment stage there will be free music each day.

On Saturday, the Wise Guyz will perform from 11 am. to 1:30 p.m. and the Second Chance Band from 2 to 5 p.m.

Sunday’s bands are No Way Back from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Tea Noelle from 1 to 3 p.m., and Gypsy Soul from 3 to 5 p.m.

Due to popular demand, the chamber has added a second booth that will sell watermelon slices.

It will be located near the Bedquarters parking lot near where vendor booth space has been added in  the 100 block of North main Street.

The other booth will be near Library Park.
