The new Manteca Police facility targeted for completion in 2027 will bring changes to the 600 block of South Main Street.
One of them will be traffic signals at South Main and Wawona Street.
Plans for the driveway to access the envisioned 45,570 square-foot police station on the east side of Main Street immediately adjacent to the Tom Duffy flooring distribution center north of Mission Ridge Drive calls for it to tie into the Wawona Street intersection.
Currently, there is a left turn pocket from north South Main to Wawona but no left turn from Wawona to Main.
The traffic signals will allow left turns onto Main Street from the police station and left turns from the neighborhood served by Wawona onto Main to head toward downtown.
It would also require modifying the landscape median to allow left turns into the police station driveway.
The police facility project is moving to the point that construction drawings will soon be started.
The timeline calls for going out to bid in mid-2026 with an 18-month build period.
Installing a signal at Wawona and Main will benefit from a citywide project currently underway to modernize the synchronization and timing between signals.
As such, the signal is not likely to impede the flow of traffic on Main Street.
Like all other signals, the ones at Wawona and Main will also be equipped with devices that police, firefighters and ambulances can use to alter traffic flow in their David when responding to emergencies.
The $58 million police station will be financed though bonds supported by the 20-year, Measure Q three-quarter cent sales tax approved by voters in November 2025.
Part of the government facilitates fees collected from growth will be used upfront while what is borrowed will be paid off with a portion of the Measure Q receipts over an 18 year period.
