Woodward, Widmer, Mossdale 8th graders advance

The next stop for Manteca Unified eighth graders will be high school.

Many celebrated their last day at their elementary school sites with promotion exercises, sharing those special moments with family, friends, and guests.

Some were honored for putting up good grades coupled with accomplishments during the past year or two.

Included were the following school sites:

Joseph Widmer Jr. School

Over 100 eighth graders were recognized at the special event held Monday in the school’s multipurpose building.

They were led by those who achieved a perfect 4.0 during all three trimesters – Ishaan Bal, Alexander Barba, Samrajpreet Bassi, Japleen Brar, Cameron Chan, Manvir Dehal, Manolo Diaz, Aubrey Hoffman, Frank Hoffman, Manmeet Singh, James Siu, Samari Sumpter, Ellie Tran, and Elias Vides – and were identified for medals and honor cords.

Principal Ignacio Cantu provided the introductions while the junior high staff distributed the department awards.

Walter Woodward School

It was a big celebration at Woodward School on Tuesday with over 180 students being listed for promotion.

The ceremony honoring the Class of 2024 consisted of the school band performing the processional accompanied by the Manteca High JROTC providing the colors prior to the Pledge of Allegiance – Alex Espinoza and Mannat Thind led in the flag salute.

Principal Heather Thomson welcomed those in attendance. Student speakers for this special event were Cali Vanni, Emma DeCosta, and Mohammed Shaik.

Among the awards for departing eighth-grade class were for citizenship and academic achievement.

Mossdale School

The Class of 2024 at Mossdale School held their Promotion Ceremony on Tuesday.

About 135 were honored on this day with Principal Anthony Chapman kicking off the morning event by welcoming those inside the multipurpose building.

The eighth-grade ceremony featured student speeches from Alexa Avina and Julieta Gutierrez Zavala, and performances by the school band.

In addition, the eighth grade faculty announced the recipients of the Mossdale Awards and the District Awards.
