Zumstein Park spruce up Project gets council’s OK

Zumstein Park is a pocket park located in the area near Jack Tone Golf Course.

It’s also one of several included in the City of Ripon’s Landscape Repair Project, which call for adding landscaping in areas where landscaping has died and not been replaced, or never planted.

The Ripon City Council recently approved a change order to Grover Landscaping Service, Inc. not to exceed $17,183 to conduct repairs, planting, and tree pruning at the park located at the corner of Zumstein Drive and Bailey Drive.

Grover was awarded the bid for the Landscape Repair Project back in January for about $217,000. Since then, crews from the Modesto-based landscaping services have conducted work on sections of Canal Boulevard, Colony Oak Road, Milgeo Avenue, North Ripon Road, West Ripon Road, and Jack Tone Road.

According to Public Works Director James Pease, Zumstein Park was in need of repair of breaks and installation of additional irrigation to provide coverage along with grading and preparing the site for planning, including along the perimeter of the park and some top dress using wood mulch.

Trimming and thinning of two large existing cork oak trees was also needed.

Cost to cover this recent change order will be paid from Miscellaneous Department Capital Fund.
