RIPON — A young motorcycle rider fled a CHP officer Wednesday night about 10 o’clock ending up in a Ripon residential neighborhood where he crashed his sports model Kawasaki and ran from the scene.

The officer had reportedly been working a security detail for construction workers on nearby Highway 99 when the officer attempted to stop the rider who raced away from the work area.

The man led the officer into Ripon and down Second Street riding westbound.  Ripon officers said the CHP unit backed off of the chase but the rider apparently was not aware that Second Street dead ends into the north at South Wilma Avenue where he crashed on  the street sending the motorcycle on its side.

The officer said the rider lost his helmet, rolled over and flipped up on his feet and took off running.  The ignition on the bike contained a shaved key indicating that the motorcycle was stolen.  Ripon officers had responded to the scene and assisted the CHP officer in taking pictures of the vehicle and the marks on the roadway.
