For the past four years, the Pumpkin Run has served as a major fundraiser for the Manteca Unified Student Trust.

MUST, a non-profit organization, was founded in 2006 by a group of community members, elected officials, and educators as a way of providing assistance to youngsters of the district.

Included was the current afterschool sports program in place of the defunct Acorn League.

Organizers of the Pumpkin Run planned for Saturday, Oct. 3, are hoping for further support in terms of the participants for the annual event.

The one-mile and five-kilometer runs will take place along the city streets and bike path.

Some 288 participants competed in last year’s Pumpkin Run, according to Wendy King.

“The event has been growing in numbers every year,” she added.

Cost is $15 for those who pre-register (forms postmarked by Sept. 25 will be guaranteed a Pumpkin Run T-shirt).

On race day, fee is $25, with T-shirts available only while supplies last.

Shirts are also available via pre-order sales at $10 each (must be picked up at the event) or $50 for a family of four and postmarked by Sept. 25.
