Precision Auto collects gifts for rehab patients

Everyone at Manteca Care and Rehabilitation Center will not have to worry about getting a present from Santa at Christmas. Each of them will receive not just one but as many as three, maybe even four wrapped gifts at their annual Christmas party on Christmas Day from Santa himself.

The scores of presents distributed will be coming from the Giving Tree at Precision Automotive on Moffat Boulevard at the corner of Garfield which has been doing this for five years in a row. People who want to be a part of this year’s philanthropic gift-giving may pick up one of the colorful paper cut-outs used to decorate the tree. On the back of each decorated paper bulb is the name of each of the more than 150 patients at the Eastwood Avenue facility off Northgate Drive, plus their Christmas wish list. To make sure the presents are given to the right person, each person’s room number at the rehab facility will be written down along with their name. The wish items often are as simple as a comb and a pair of warm slippers for winter, or sweat shirt and pants and perhaps a bottle of perfume, Shelley Kohl said.

The gift-giving bulbs will be ready for picking starting on Monday, Dec. 6, at Precision Auto during regular business hours, said Shelley Kohl. She and husband Chris are owners of the auto-service business which has been a fixture in Manteca for many years. They are closed during lunch hour from noon to 1 p.m.

Anybody who wants to donate a gift or two or more can stop by the office anytime, Shelley Kohl said. The tree is located in the front office of Precision Auto. Gift donors do not have to purchase everything listed in the wish list; conversely, anyone can take as many bulb ornaments as they want and purchase as many gifts as they want.

Shelly Kohl said purchased items that are donated should not be wrapped but simply placed in a gift bag. That way, she can make sure that everyone at Manteca Rehab will receive not just the appropriate gifts that they listed but several gifts. She asks that all donations be brought back to the Giving Tree between Dec. 15 and 18 to give her and her volunteer crew enough time to wrap the gifts individually in time for the Christmas party at Manteca Rehab.

Shelley Kohl said she hopes that generous individuals in the community will step forward again to make this year’s Giving Tree as successful as it was in previous years.

“Everybody had at least three gift items. People have been really good,” she said.
