The best entertainment bargain this weekend can be found on the streets of downtown Manteca during the silver anniversary of the Sunrise Kiwanis Manteca Pumpkin Fair.

The Saturday and Sunday event that runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days includes free entertainment as well as free kids games plus a tractor show, a car show, vendors, food booths, and kid rides. Admission is free to the event bounded by Main Street, Center Street, and the railroad tracks.

Actually, it is the 40th anniversary of the annual pumpkin party that was originally launched by Manteca Pumpkin Growers and then handed off to the Manteca Jaycees before the Sunrise Kiwanis took over 25 years ago.

The heart of the pumpkin fair are the pumpkin events sponsored by the Manteca Pumpkin Growers at Library Park. There you can select a pumpkin. Kids can also try their hand at pumpkin rolling, pumpkin seed spitting and pie eating to name a few of the free contests.

The Main Stage entertainment between the Manteca Library and Post Office that is sponsored by Budweiser includes Whiskey Hill at noon and Threshold at 4 p.m. on Saturday. Sunday’s Main Stage musical entertainment includes Red Di at noon and Sky Kings at 4 p.m.
