It’s never uplifting to spend the holidays confined to a hospital bed.

But thanks to the selfless actions of one quintet, dealing with the holidays away from home was a little bit easier.

And if their melodic singing wasn’t enough, the five singers were all employees of Doctors Hospital of Manteca and volunteered their time in order to see a smile on the faces of the sick and the infirmed who would much rather be in their own homes.

The Christmas Eve serenade was the first in what could become an annual tradition for the hospital. It was started after a staffer asked about assembling a crew to spread the holiday cheer to those who need it most.

So Marnea Acosta, Christine Acosta, Sophia Clark, Gail Haraka, and Janine Brown answered the call – starting in the lobby of the hospital before proceeding on to different wings of the hospital.

For Christine Acosta – the former Manteca Idol that wowed the community with her sultry voice – the endeavor was more than just a chance to sing.

“It makes you a little bit emotional when you get out here,” Acosta said. “These are people who wish they could be home, and hopefully we can bring a little bit of that to them.

“This is something we’re definitely planning to do again in the future.”
