RIPON – “Rango” is about an ordinary chameleon who accidentally winds up in the town of a lawless outpost in the Wild West in need of a new sheriff.
The 2011 animated film directed by Gore Verbinski and starring the voices of Johnny Depp, Isla Fisher and Timothy Olymphant will mark the return of Family Movie Night at Mistlin Sports Park Amphitheater.
“Rango” will be shown on Friday beginning after 9 p.m. or when it gets dark.
The City of Ripon-sponsored event will include non-profit groups providing the concessions.
Those attending are encouraged to bring blankets or their low-lying lawn chairs.
“Rango” is the first of this summer’s free movies at the park, with the City hoping to host several more in the coming weeks.
The Ripon City Council recently voted to bring back the free-to-the-public event, especially since Disney-Pixar’s “Up” and the Academy Award-winning “The Blindside” were both well-attended during that inaugural season.
Elected leaders, in an effort to offer family entertainment during tough economical times, once again opted to fork out a few hundred dollars from the general fund for the licensing rights to air box office hits, with an outside company handling the projector and screen.
