RIPON — Ripon Mayor Chuck Winn declared May 1 as Silver Star Service Banner Day in the community through a resolution at Tuesday night’s city council meeting.  It is the official day to honor those wounded and injured troops and veterans in the city of Ripon.

In the resolution he proclaimed his appreciation of The Silver Star Families of America and honor their commitment to the members of the Armed Forces.

He noted that The Silver Star Families of America has freely given thousands of Silver Star Service Banners to the wounded and their families.  The mission is to create an image of a banner in a window or the flying of a Silver Star flag that people remember the sacrifices of the service men and women in the community.
