The City of Ripon will be celebrating First Responders Appreciation Day on Saturday, April 7.
This second-ever event recognizing local police, dispatchers, firefighters, paramedics and EMTs is the brainchild of Ripon Mayor Michael Restuccia.
“After watching the (Dec. 8, 2017) train wreck in New Jersey and first responders once again putting their lives on the line for all the injured, I felt I needed to help make a difference.
“I immediately decided to sponsor a First Responders Appreciation Day in Ripon,” he said.
Last year, First Responders Appreciation Day kicked off with a morning gathering at the Ripon Consolidated Fire Department followed by a walk to the Ripon Police Department.
This year will be the reverse of that.
It will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the police department at 259 N. Wilma Ave, ending at the fire department, 142 S. Stockton St. at about 9 o’clock.
The first 200 participants will receive free t-shirts.
Once at the fire department, there will be a short presentation along with refreshments and snacks.
Emergency vehicles will also be on display.
All are invited.
First Responders Appreciation Day is held every first Saturday of April.
