Ripona School open house marks 50 years

 Ripona School’s all-day open house Thursday celebrates the campus’ 50th anniversary as well as being selected as one of California’s top 193 middle schools.
Students will make special presentations throughout the day noting what happened at Ripona School and the world as a whole through the decades.
u8:30 to 9:15 a.m., the 1960s will be presented by transitional kindergarten at the kindergarten grass area, kindergarten at the kindergarten blacktop area, and first grade in Room 4
9:15 to 10 a.m. the 1970s will be presented by second and third grades on the playground.
10:30 to 11 a.m., the 1980s will be presented by the seventh grade in Room 26 and eight grade in Rooms 23 and 25.
11 to 11:30 a.m., the 1990s presentation will be made by the sixth grade in the quad area.
11:30 a.m. to 1:10 p.m., is the lunch break that will include a cake reception in the cafeteria.
1:15 to 1:45 p.m., the 2000s presentation will be made by the fifth grade in Room 34
1:45 to 2:15 p.m., the 2010s will be presented by the fourth grade on the multi-use stage.
Ripon Unified Superintendent Ziggy Robeson said “the entire community is welcome to attend.”
The day will also be used to celebrate the California Department of Education selecting Ripona School as a Golden Ribbon School for 2015.
“These schools are academically successful, vibrant, and innovative centers of learning and teaching,” State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson said of the 193 middle schools and 180 high schools honored under the state’s new Gold Ribbon Schools Awards Program. It is temporarily taking the place of the California Distinguished Schools Program.
“They provide great examples of the things educators are doing right — embracing rigorous academic standards, providing excellence and creativity in teaching, and creating a positive school climate,” he added.
Robeson noted the Golden Ribbon Award is a salute to the Ripona staff, the students, as well as the community for their commitment to education excellence.
The Ripona campus is at 415 East Oregon Street in Ripon.
