Runners take their mark for the Fun Run of the former Color the Skies event last year.

The Ripon Chamber Foundation will be putting on Soaring Over Ripon during the upcoming Labor Day weekend.
At the Aug. 9 meeting, the Ripon City Council waived the facility use fee of $3,500 for use of the Mistlin Sports Park, from Sept. 2 through 4.
No discussion was necessary.
Soaring Over Ripon was previously known as Color the Skies hot air balloon and kite festival. According to Ripon Chamber of Commerce website, the name change came about from a community vote.
Rosanna Lehmann came up with suggestion.
The two-day festival is scheduled from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 3, and Sunday, Sept. 4, and will still feature the hot air balloon and kites.
The 10th annual Fun Run will also take place, consisting of a 5K and 10K running events. Cost is $30 for the 5K, $35 for the 10K, and $10 for the children’s Fun Run. Proceeds from this event will help support the community and Valley Children’s Hospital.
The start and finish of the Fun Run will take place at Mistlin Sports Park, 1201 W. River Road.
Other points of interest include the hot air balloon launch beginning at 6 a.m., with a pancake breakfast also staring at that time.
The kite festival is scheduled at 1 p.m., weather permitting.
Midway rides are another feature, with the carnival being open from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., Friday, Sept. 2, and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the weekend.
Pre-carnival tickets are currently on sale for $20 and are available at the Ripon Chamber of Commerce, 929 W. Main St. and Save Mart Supermarket, 1453 Goodwin Dr.
