• MAN PICKPOCKETED AFTER OAKLAND CRASH: OAKLAND (AP) — A Northern California bicyclist and the truck driver who hit him were both robbed by bystanders following the collision.
The Oakland Tribune reports that 25-year-old Greg Lowrie was hit by a truck at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday in West Oakland as he was riding his bike to a health center.
Lowrie was born with a heart defect and requires regular medical care.
Authorities say that after an 81-year-old motorist hit Lowrie, throwing him about 30 feet, he stopped and was helping him.
It was then that the two men had their wallets stolen.
His mother, Maggie Lowrie says her son was unconscious Wednesday evening. His condition Thursday morning was not immediately available.
Police say Lowrie may have rode into the intersection against a red light when he was hit. No arrests have been made in the thefts.
• POLICE ARREST MAN SUSPECTED OF CRASHING INTO HOUSE: RIVERSIDE (AP) — Los Angeles police say a driver was arrested after allegedly trying to run over a pedestrian and crashing into a house.
Residents in the Boyle Heights area were able to restrain the suspect after he tried to run off after the crash Wednesday night.
Police say the pedestrian was not injured when the suspect allegedly drove his 1997 Toyota onto the lawn and crashed into the house.
• SF MAN TO RUN RACES ON 7 CONTINENTS IN 7 DAYS: SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A San Francisco man is attempting to run seven marathons in seven days on seven continents.
Thirty-one-year old Tim Durbin is the only American competing in the World Marathon Challenge that starts Saturday.
The group starts in Antarctica, then it’s onto Chile, followed by Miami, Madrid, Morocco, Dubai, ending in Sydney, Australia.
On each of the seven days, Durbin and 8 others will aim to complete a 26.2 mile marathon.
Two in the group will try to run a half-marathon each day.
The other competitors are from Brazil, India, Great Britain, Hong Kong, France, Finland and Australia. Many are seasoned marathoners.
Eleven have run the North Pole Marathon or Anatartcic Ice Marathon, the northernmost and southernmost marathons on earth.
Durbin also trying to raise $77,777 for a cancer research foundation. But he’s also shelling out $37,000 to participate.
