The Lathrop Manteca Sun Post is being acquired by the Tracy Press.

Tracy Press Editor and Vice President Cheri Matthews confirmed Thursday that the Matthews family – publishers of the Tracy Press since 1898 – is obtaining full ownership of the Manteca-based weekly.

Sun Post co-publishers Carlon Perry and Cecilia Drake could not be reached for comment. Sun Post staff members declined to comment.

The Sun Post just recently started their fourth year of publication.

Perry is a former Manteca mayor while Drake at one-time ran for the Manteca City Council.

The two co-publishers and their spouses at one time also published a pair of weeklies in the Santa Cruz County communities of Scotts Valley and Felton prior to selling them to the Matthews family.

The Tracy Press partnered with Drake and Perry to open the Sun Post shortly after ownership of the two Santa Cruz County papers changed hands. At one point, the production of the Sun Post was done in Tracy until several years ago when the Sun Post established its own composing operation in Manteca.

The Tracy Press has already posted an opening for an editor/reporter on a journalism jobs website with an application deadline of March 31.
