Two men lost their lives within 15 minutes of each other Wednesday night.
One was killed by a train at the Main Street crossing and the other died in  a head-on collision on Woodward Avenue.
Manteca Police said  Jeremy Walker, 34, of Ripon, was reported to have walked into the middle of a Union Pacific train at 10:15 p.m. Firefighters found his body along the north side of the tracks between South Main Street and Yosemite Avenue.  The train crew attempted to brake the train but to no avail.
It was about 15 minutes later when emergency dispatchers received a 911 call about a head-on crash on Woodward Avenue near where it intersects with South McKinley Avenue in southwest Manteca.
A westbound 2000 vintage GMC Yukon and an eastbound ‘80s Toyota collided passing side by side in a fatal collision with the driver and passenger of the Toyota being extricated by firefighters.
The GMC Yukon was found on its side and the Toyota came to rest on the south shoulder, police said.  The driver of the Yukon fled the scene before the arrival of police, medics and firefighters, they added.
 The passenger in the GMC was transported to an area hospital for treatment.  The passenger in the Toyota died at the scene. The passenger was transported by ambulance to a hospital.
Police reported the status of the driver of the Toyota and the passenger in the GMC was unknown at press time.  Woodward Avenue remained closed for several hours due to the collision and the Major Accident Investigation Team’s review but was reopened by 6 a.m.
