United Bacarreneos sets annual meeting Sunday

LATHROP – Members of the United Bacarreneos of America will hold their annual general membership meeting Sunday, July 31, starting at noon at Manuel Valverde Community Park in Lathrop.

UBA president Nerie Acosta, who is ending her two-year term of office with a possibility of being re-elected if nominated, said nomination of candidates and election of new officers for the next two fiscal years (2011-13) also will take place at this meeting.

The meeting will begin with a picnic lunch followed by the nomination and election of officers.

Expected to attend are UBA members from the Bay Area, Modesto in Stanislaus County, and Stockton, Manteca, Lathrop and French Camp in San Joaquin County. Incumbent president Nerie Acosta, formerly of Manteca, is currently a Lathrop resident.

Among the special guests who are expected to attend are Mayor Joseph “Chaka” Santos and Council member Sonny Dhaliwal.

The United Bacarreneos of America will celebrate the 80th anniversary of its founding in 2012. It was founded in 1932 in Lathrop by the late Vicente Acoba.

The organization is made up of members who hail from the town of Bacarra in the Ilocos Norte province of the Philippines. Bacarra is the Sister City of Lathrop.
