New name sprouts for Ripon Unified continuation school

Harvest High School is now the official name of the Ripon High continuation site.

Trustee followed the recommendation of the Naming Committee last week, voting unanimously on the name.

At last month’s meeting, the school board was set to go with Harvest Academy, as initially suggested by committee. But member Connie Jorgensen requested that elected leaders hold off on that name.

“We really needed more than just three people on the naming of the continuation school,” she said back then.

The committee also considered the name, River High School.

But Rod Wright of the Ripon Unified School District Teachers Association noted that Harvest Academy name had been suggested when RHS was formulating a continuation program about three years ago.

“It’s clear, concise and relatable,” he said at last month’s meeting. “Unlike continuation school, there’s not a negative connotation in the name.

“As for Harvest – that’s what we do in Ripon.”

The Naming Committee recently reconvened, voting 3-1 on Harvest High School.

In addition, the board supported the group’s recommendation of the Ripon High Track and Ripon High Stadium.

The facility will maintain its Stouffer Field identity.
