Al Gonsalves, 74, passed away March 10, 2009 at Sutter Tracy Hospital in Tracy.

He was born January 19, 1935 in Oakland.

Al resided in Tracy for four years. Prior to that, he resided in Manteca for 21 years.

He is survived by his wife Dee Gonsalves of 42 years; children Theresa Tucker and husband, Vern, of Hilmar,     Trines John Head of Hawaii, and Joseph Gonsalves and wife, Lenore of San Jose; siblings Jeanette Oldham and husband, Jack, of Grants Pass, OR. He was preceded in death by the late Betty Lou Hawkin; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Al was a U.S. Navy veteran who served in the Korean War.

He retired after 26 years as a tree surgeon and supervisor for Davey Tree Surgery.  He was a member of the Sunnyvale and Manteca Moose Lodges.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gold panning and going to garage sales.

Celebration of Life Service is Saturday, March 21, 2009 at 1p.m. at the San Joaquin River Club (Clubhouse), 30000 Kasson Road, Tracy. The final resting place is private and is at the  San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery, Gustine.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be sent to: American Heart Association, 1212 W. Robinhood Drive, No. 5D, Stockton, CA 95207 or American Lung Association, 1231 Robinhood Drive No. A-1, Stockton, CA 95207.

Arrangements are under the direction of P.L. Fry & Son Funeral Home, 290 N. Union Road, Manteca.
