Betty Fern Awbrey passed on Feb.11, 2011 at 4:44 a.m., in Manteca, California from complications of uterine cancer. She was 73 years old.

Born in Rising Star,Texas, proud daughter of Mr. E.E. and Mrs. Bertie Mae Watson. The family relocated to Aztec, New Mexico, where Betty spent her high school years playing saxophone in the band and making great memories with friends, marrying James J. (Jim) Shryock and later divorcing.

She was a warm, loving big sister to Margie Neitzel of Texas, Emery E. (Chigger) and Judi Watson of Bloomfield, N.M, Coy and Cindi Watson of Aztec N.M.

She was beloved mother to Joey, Johnny, Lonny, Shawnie Shryock and Gina Antenucci.

She was passionate about music and dancing and her happy marriage to Garland Awbrey of Andrews Texas.

She was a gracious and caring step-mother to Doug, Joy, Brenda and Teresa Awbrey, Doug and Shellie Tuckett.

She was preceeded in death by her grandchildren: James Joseph (J.J.) Shryock (2006), Charless, Bryanna, and Alohna Shryock (2007).

She was an adoring grandmother to Kristen, Josh, Danica, Jared, Sean, Bonnie, Dylaina, and Beau Shryock. Jacob, Ginny, and Nicole Palacios, David Hunter, and great-grandmother to eight.

Known for her beautiful smile and non-judgmental way, she will be missed every day, religion helped her be strong while she was here, God gave her hands to hold when she left. Her family will carry forward her wisdom and grace as we walk this path without her. We love you, Momma.

Her memorial will be held by her family at seaside where her ashes will be scattered and prayers recited.

The family would like to mention Doctors Hospital, to the RNs and CNAs for their care to both our mother and us during a very challenging time, Manteca Care and Rehabilitation Center for going above and beyond to ensure comfort during our mother’s process of passing. May God bless each of you and keep you safe.
