Bill Mahaffey, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend passed away on May 22, 2024. Bill was born on September 9, 1944 to the late Virginia and Charles Mahaffey and is preceded in death by his nephew Robert Blattler.

   Bill is survived by his devoted wife of 28 years, Debbie, and his two cherished children, Michael (Kathryn) Mahaffey and Christene Adams. He was the proud grandfather of Marissa and Makenna, who brought immense joy to his life. Bill is also survived by his siblings, Charlene (John) Giuliani and Bob Mahaffey, his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Barbara Blattler, and many extended family members who will miss him dearly.

   Bill grew up in Stockton, California, and shortly after graduating, he enlisted in the Army, where he served honorably as a Vietnam veteran. Following his military service, Bill began a distinguished career with the Manteca Police Department in 1966. Over the span of 35 years, he rose through the ranks, working with the canine unit force and ultimately becoming the Captain of the department. His dedication and excellence were often celebrated in the Manteca Bulletin, highlighting his numerous accolades. Known for his social nature and playful spirit, Bill was a jokester at heart who enjoyed spending time on the farm with his family and attending animal auctions. He had a deep love for old music and movies, and he cherished every moment with his family. A content and kind man, Bill had a special fondness for animals.

   Bill was an active member of the community, participating in the Horse Association, the Manteca Lathrop Fire Board, and the Moose Lodge. He enjoyed reminiscing, telling stories, and staying informed about local news.

   Bill Mahaffey's legacy of service, love, and laughter will continue to inspire all who knew him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, and his contributions to his community will not be forgotten.
