Billie Ruth Kolsrud obit

She was born January 24, 1931, in Salem, Oregon, to Edward and Wave Pierce. Billie grew up in Keizer, Oregon with her loving parents and younger sister Barbara (known as Bobbi). She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, and husbands, Roy and Sam. She is survived by her sons Mark Pearsall (Leonore), Randy Pearsall (Karen), grandchildren Kyle (Jessica), Kelley (Justin), Wyatt (Candice), and Caitlin, several great grandchildren, and other beloved family.

In 1950, Billie married her high school sweetheart, Roy Pearsall, a Marine serving in the Korean War. In 1952, Roy returned home, and the two farmed and later opened a shoe store. Sons Mark and Randy were born in 1953 and 1954. In the mid–1960s, the family moved to Castro Valley, California.

After Roy's sudden passing, Billie moved to Hayward. One of her realtors, Sam Kolsrud, made quite the impression on her and they ended up marrying in 1977. The couple lived in Hayward, Lake Wildwood, Sun City West, Arizona, and finally, Jamestown, California. Two years after Sam's death, Billie moved to Del Webb (Woodbridge) in Manteca. Her last home was Manteca Assisted Living.

A dedicated San Francisco Giants fan, Billie had a lifelong passion for baseball. In 8th grade, she played on the boys' baseball team to fill in for a missing player and, in high school, joined the girls' varsity team. Later, when her sons were in high school, she even caught practice pitches for them.

Billie was a tireless worker. Starting at 10 years old, she picked strawberries in Oregon with her mom. During high school, she worked at a soda fountain/lunch counter, where she continued working until 1955. In the late 1960s, she worked full–time as the personal secretary of Floyd Sparks, the publisher of The Daily Review newspaper in Hayward. Her typing skills were renowned!

Her hobbies included golf, needlepoint, sewing, and baking. She was also an avid reader of mystery and action novels. Besides keeping the cleanest house on the planet, she was well–known for her delicious "Grandma Billie Lemonade", homemade strawberry jam, and famous potato salad. She had a great sense of humor and loved dancing and taking trips with her husband Sam. They traveled throughout the country and even went on international cruises. She loved to have fun with family and friends.

What really stood out about Billie was that she was a genuinely nice person who always had a sweet smile on her face and a kind word to share. She was truly an accomplished woman in many aspects of her life, but her biggest accomplishment was being the loving rock of her family.

After one's passing, the true measure of a person is not defined by their wealth or fame, but by their actions, and how much they will be missed by those they leave behind. Our family will miss Billie greatly, as a beloved mother, aunt, grandmother, and great grandma. But we know how blessed we are to have had her in our lives for so long. The sweet memories of her will bring us comfort.

A service will be held on Monday, April 6 at 2pm at Park View Cemetery in Manteca.
