Carl Albert Grissom, Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away on February 23, 2025, at the age of 85, in Manteca, California, surrounded by friends and family. Carl was born on December 8, 1939, and grew up in Lathrop Acres, where he developed a strong foundation of values that guided his life. On April 15, 1957, Carl married his high school sweetheart, Sue Ferguson, and together they built a life full of love and memories.
Carl’s legacy lives on through his loving wife, Sue Grissom, and their children: Carl Grissom, Jr. (Karen), Eddie Grissom (Patty), and Kelly Seegers (Dan), as well as his bonus daughter Debbie Vaca (Lester). He was a proud and devoted grandfather to Brake, Jeremy Brake, Jacob Grissom, Brandy Grissom, Eddie Grissom, Coby Grissom, Robert Seegers, Lowell Seegers, and Jon Seegers. He also had 21 great-grandchildren, including one great-great-grandchild, all of whom will forever cherish his love and guidance.
Carl is survived by his brother, Lowell Grissom. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Kayla Grissom, and his siblings: Dorothy Mack, Margaret Wages, Annabelle Royal, and Charles Grissom, and his parents Ray and Mabel Grissom
A graduate of Lathrop Elementary and Manteca High School, Carl began his career in 1959 as a Millwright in Heavy Construction and a proud member of the Local 102 Union for over 55 yrs. Carl’s work ethic and dedication made a lasting impact on those around him. Outside of work, Carl was deeply involved in the FFA, always ready to lend a hand to help children purchase their project animals including fair fees for the County Fair. His love for family extended to the community, where he helped others as he could. Carl was the 1st President of the East Union High FFA boosters Club and spent many days and nights helping the Kids at the fair.
In his younger years, Carl had a passion for racing cars and competing at the 99 Speedway. But nothing compared to his love for his family. He adored his children and grandchildren and made sure to surprise them with special memories that would last a lifetime. His great-grandchildren will always remember the $2 bills he lovingly gifted them, a cherished keepsake of his affection.
Carl was baptized as a Jehovah's Witness on February 15, 2020, and attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses in Manteca. He welcomed Henry and Lucy Churchill, as well as Jacob and Bella, and Dear friends, Mark, Lesa, Larry, Connie, Mike and Carol, whom he and Sue meet thru a short stay in Kentucky and so many others who he welcomed into his home and heart, extending his love to all who entered his life.
A Graveside Service for Carl will be held on March 4, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at East Union Cemetery, 1035 N. Union Road, Manteca, CA 95336.
