Dalhart Romayne Eklund, born February 3, 1931 passed away peacefully, May 29, 2013, at the age of 82, in Manteca, CA, after living with his son’s family in Manteca for nine months. Dalhart was a longtime resident of Callahan, CA where he made his home with his wife, Darlene Joy (Mahlum) Eklund.

Dalhart was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Darlene and his daughter Kristi Kalustian.

He is survived  by his four children, Becky Moore (Richard) of Callahan, CA, Lorri Biehl (Dennis) of Pittsburg, CA, Buck Eklund (Kim) of Bay Point, CA and Timothy Eklund (Joan) of Manteca, CA,  as well as 11 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Dal was born in Kenmare, ND, to Walt and Evelyn Eklund, and to this day has several close relatives residing there including his only sister, Patricia Essen (Kenny).

He received his BS degree in Mining & Engineering from the University of North Dakota and a MS degree in  Mechanical Engineering from Washington State University and was a true Educator. After teaching engineering at Oregon Technical Institute in Klamath Falls, OR for seven years, he became President of Cogswell Polytechnical College in San Francisco, CA.

Dal retired in 1982 and put his engineering skills to work to build their home on Sugar Creek outside of Callahan, where they both enjoyed the open space and beauty of the area. Dal enjoyed the many visits from his grandchildren during the summer months and schooled them on the outdoors and the many wonders of the Sugar Creek area.

Dal was very involved in local community activities including serving as a volunteer fire fighter and was a member of their board. Both Dal and his wife were faithful members of  the Callahan Community Church and worshiped there for over 30 years.

A Memorial Service is scheduled for August 17, 2013, at 6pm, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 6060 Northland Rd, Manteca.
