Donald J. Merdinger, 75, of Manteca died at home June 9, 2010 after a sudden illness.Mr. Merdinger was born in Omaha, Neb., on August 14, 1934, and attended schools in Stockton, Calif.  

He graduated from Stockton High School in 1945.He served as a radar specialist with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He made his career at Spreckels Sugar Company in Manteca as a laboratory chemist. Mr. Merdinger married Juanita Rhodes July 22, 1975 in Reno, Nev.  She died in 1998.A long-time member of the Stockton Golf and Country Club, Mr. Merdinger was an avid golfer and enjoyed his many long-standing friendships with associates of the Club, which was his second home.  

He was a member of the “Roosevelt” bunch, who played golf and socialized together three times a week.He is survived by his brother Robert of Stockton, his stepson Oscar Lee (Sharon) Rhodes of Yountville, his stepdaughter Lillie Rhodes of Manteca and stepgrandchildren Patricia, John, Joseph, Paige, Oscar III, Matthew Towner and Jason Rhodes.  Also surviving are numerous nephews and nieces.

His brother Brainard, his sister Jacqueline and his stepsons John and Ron Rhodes preceded him in death.A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., June 18, at the DeYoung Shoreline Chapel, 7676 Shoreline Dr., Stockton.  A reception will follow at the Stockton Golf and Country Club.
