Dorothy Gorman, affectionately known as "Aunt Dorothy," passed away on August 8, 2025, in San Mateo, California. She was born on July 7, 1927, to the late Guss and Mary Schmiedt in California,
Dorothy led a life marked by service, education, and warmth. In 1968, she joined the Peace Corps and spent two years in Afghanistan, dedicating herself to international service. Her passion for helping others continued throughout her long and successful career as a school counselor and teacher. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and later obtained her Master’s degree from San Francisco State University. Dorothy worked in the South San Francisco Unified School District for 30 years until she retired June 15, 1990.
Dorothy loved to travel and traveled all over the world with her friends and family. She also loved reading, music, gardening and all types of sewing and needle craft.
Dorothy was known for her gracious spirit and generous heart. She was the consummate hostess and a beloved presence in the lives of many—truly everyone’s “Aunt Dorothy.”
She leaves behind her nephew Alan Schmiedt and his wife Cheryl; Alan's children, Stephen Schmiedt (Clara), and their children, and Kimberly Schmiedt Martin (Ed) and her children. She also leaves behind niece, Kathy Gorman and a great nephew Randy Gorman (Tanya) and their son. She is reunited in peace with her brother Lester Schmiedt (Frances), nephew Ernest Schmiedt and niece, Diane Gorman Simmons.
