Elizabeth Ann Sucht was born on August 21, 1937, to Hazel Annette Belle Grimble and George Grimble in Cairo, Kansas, where she grew up on her family’s farm with her sister, Jane Grimble.  She attended Kansas State University and Kansas University, receiving bachelor degrees in Home Economics and Nursing, earning her Registered Nursing License in 1958.

While at Kansas State she met Leon Sucht and they married in December of 1958.  Liz worked at the Student Health center at K-State supporting Leon while he finished his Masters Degree.  Liz and Leon moved to California in 1960 and were transferred to several cities including Manteca. During their 64 years of marriage Liz practiced nursing in hospitals and schools. Later she taught nursing classes for LVN’s for many years in Manteca.

After retiring, Liz and Leon returned to Manteca in 2002.  Liz was an active member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, where she loved her church family.  She was active in the United Methodist Women, Tuesday Book Club, Holy Roamers, and Door Keepers.  Each year since 1979, Liz and family have attended the annual Methodist Family Camp where she met many lifelong friends.

Liz was active in many organizations, especially those benefiting the education of women.  She was an honorary life member of the American Association of University Women, a member of the Manteca Federated Women’s Club, Manteca Historical Society, Manteca Mural Society, Mayor’s Committee on the Arts, and a 4-H Club leader.  She was a coordinator for the American Scandinavian Student Exchange program and was host to five high school foreign exchange students.  Each year she looked forward to sorting and selling books at the Valley Book Fair to support the Friends of the Library.

Liz loved to travel and enjoyed many domestic and international vacations as well as trips back to Kansas to visit family and friends.  Liz enjoyed her times in the mountains and at the cabin, especially at Christmas when the whole family would be together. She loved collecting and showing her quilts, reading books, eating gelato, attending musicals, and reading to her grandchildren.

Liz is survived by her husband of 64 years, Leon Sucht, her children, LeAnn Sucht (Marty Udisches), Gayle Perry (David), Steven Sucht (Katy), and three grandchildren, Matthew Udisches, Leon Sucht and Kaia Sucht.
