Elsie H. Krediet was born in Hospers, Iowa and moved to Ripon with her family in 1919. She was a homemaker most of her life as well as the Dietary Supervisor at Bethany Home for 20 years. Elsie and her sister Wendy catered for the Lions Club for 33 years and also catered the Chamber of Commerce dinners and many wedding receptions. She was famous for “Elsie’s chicken.” Most of her cooking experience came from cooking for 13 months at a Navajo Indian mission in Rehoboth, New Mexico.
She is preceded in death by her husband John Krediet, son David Krediet, granddaughter Janelle Krediet, brothers, Pete Hekman, Walt Hekman, Ralph Hekman, Martin Hekman and sisters, Beulah De Vries, Helen Roos, Annie Vander Plaats, and Bertha Rylaarsdam
She is survived by her children; son, Robert Kredit and wife Gretchen Kredit from Modesto, daughter, Judi Collins from Manteca, daughter Cathy Witt and husband Ken Witt from Muskegon, MI, and son, John Krediet and wife Louise Krediet from Modesto, 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, brother Jake Hekman and sisters, Gertrude De Boer both from Grand Rapids, MI. and Wendy Groen from Ripon.
Elsie had a love for life, family and friends but most of all she had a love for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was a charter member of Immanuel Christian Reformed Church in Ripon. Elsie also loved to golf and played with the Manteca Sweet Swingers for many years. She also managed to get 2 holes-in-one, the first at age 80 and the second at age 83. She was also an avid Giants fan and enjoyed watching as many games as possible.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 11, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Deegan Ripon Memorial Chapel. Graveside service will be on Thursday, May 12, at 10 a.m. at Ripon Cemetery with a Memorial service to follow at 11 a.m. at Immanuel Christian Reformed Church.
