Guillermo Alfonso Arteaga, 55, passed away Jan. 14, 2009, at his home in Manteca.

Known to close friends and family as “Pelon”, “Bill” and “Flaco”, Guillermo Alfonso Arteaga was born February 3, 1953, in Carbo, Sonora, Mexico to Enrique and Teresa Arteaga.

He married the love of his life, Lydia E. Olmos, on Jan. 13, 1973 in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico.  He came to the United States on Oct. 17, 1977.

His family wrote: “Pelon’s kind heart, devotion to his family and friends and his enthusiasm for life was an inspiration to us all. He lived his life to the fullest and taught us to do the same. Although we have lost a husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, God has gained an angel. Pelon, you will be missed.”

He is survived by his wife, Lydia E. Arteaga of Manteca; daughters and sons-in-law, L. Yazmin Collom and James Collom of Queen Creek, AZ, April C. Nunez and Pedro Nunez of Stockton, Crystal V. Wong and Benjamin Wong of Manteca; grandchildren, Patrick, Samantha and Megan Collom and Sonora Belen Nunez Arteaga; brothers and sisters-in-law, Enrique and Marilyn Arteaga, Robert and Cecilia Arteaga, Gustavo and Sandra Arteaga; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Teresa and Miguel Garcia and Dolores and David Leon.

Guillermo was preceded in death by his parents, Enrique and Teresa Arteaga; and his brother Rogelio Arteaga.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009, at P.L. Fry & Son Funeral Home, 290 N. Union Road, Manteca, from 3 to 7 p.m. Rosary will immediately follow Visitation. Church services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 21, at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 505 E. North Street, Manteca. Burial will take place at St. John’s Cemetery in Escalon immediately after services.
