Hattie grew up in Iowa and moved to California in 1938 to Artesia. In 1947, she moved to Ripon, California. On February 10, 1949 she married her husband, Simon. In her early years she worked at McDonnel-Douglas on airplanes during WWII as a “Rosie the Riveter”. She also did house cleaning. She spent most of her life as a homemaker and helping her husband, Simon, on their almond ranch.
She was an active member of the Calvary Reformed Church, Calvary’s Women’s Guild, and Kingdom Helpers. She also taught catechism and Sunday school. At Ripon Christian School she was part of the Society for Christian Instruction and Ripon Christian School Circle, where she was one of the first group of ladies to make sloppy joes for hot lunches and loved the women she worked with. She was also a Blue Diamond Almond Growers member. Hattie volunteered her time at Christian Beret Thrift Store. She loved sewing and in her retirement years, would make doll clothes for all the dolls that were donated to Christian Beret. She also loved baking and cooking. She will always be remembered for her amazing pies and Dutch baked goods. Her desire was to always help and serve others.
Hattie spent her last 6 years at Bethany Home in Ripon. After Hattie came to Bethany Home, she looked forward to her visits from family, especially her husband who would come and sit by her side daily. The family is thankful for the kind, loving and compassionate care she received from Bethany Home staff, especially during the Covid-19 shutdown when her family couldn’t be with her.
Due to Covid-19, graveside service will be immediate family only.
