Heather A. Chraska obit

Heather Chraska passed away late in the evening of March 29, bravely withstanding cancer until the end. Born in New Rochelle, NY - she was the 2nd of four daughters born to parents, Gordon and Margaret Chraska.

Before settling in California, her military family background took her to NY, VA, ME, and NC. She served briefly in the US Navy on the USS Yellowstone. This was followed by her 25 year career as a correctional officer at DVI in Tracy, CA. Small in stature at 5’4”, she quickly garnered respect and recognition throughout her time served with the state.

She is survived by her son Shelby, father Gordon, sisters Diane, Haley (her twin), and Chantel amongst numerous nieces, nephews, and relatives in Scotland. She always had an adventurous personality, especially in regard to food and travel. Her countries visited included Mexico, Scotland, Cuba, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, and China. Her favorite city was Saigon, and her favorite dish while abroad was Massaman Curry. Her post retirement plans were to center around world travel, which unfortunately won’t be physically realized. However, she passed her passion for adventure to her son - who will make sure her remains are scattered in all corners of the Earth.

P.L. Fry and Son is honored to be serving the Chraska family. A memorial will be held with honors on Monday April 8, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at P.L. Fry and Son Chapel, 290 N. Union Rd., Manteca, Ca.
