John Bernard Souza passed away on May 12, 2024 in Modesto at the age of 76. John was born, one of seven children, on July 2, 1947 in Los Banos, California to parents, James and Ina Souza. He has been a resident of Ripon for the past 26 years. 

   John was drafted into the US Army during the Vietnam War where he served in Germany. John’s career was in the grocery business, working over 40 years in retail store management. He was devoted to his career and had an incredible work ethic.  He also took great pride in his yard work, making sure his lawn was perfect and well maintained.  John was an avid San Francisco Giants and 49er’s fan. He had a great sense of humor and loved making people laugh. John loved his family; being a father and a “Papa” was one of the greatest joys of his life. 

   John leaves behind his loving wife of 21 years, Cindy Souza, his children, John Souza, Jr., Joe Souza (Angie), Jenna Dickens (Matt), Brian Brown (Jeannie) and Erin Kenning (Bobby), his grandchildren, Reid, Brady, Hannah, Wyatt, Luke, Levi, Maddie, Charlie, Margaret and Andrew.  John also leaves behind his brothers; Mike, Dave, Jerry and his sisters, Lorri and Jackie.   John is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Dan.

   Deegan Funeral Chapel is honored to serve the Souza family.  A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Deegan Ripon Memorial Chapel, 111 S. Palm Ave. in Ripon.
