A celebration of life service for Laurie Ann Cunial Berg will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, at River Lakes Community Church, 4301 Calloway Drive, Bakersfield. Graveside services will be held at 9 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 7, at Redbanks Cemetery on Shaw Avenue east of Clovis, Cal. To honor Laurie’s life and spirit, please wear cheerful colors to the services.

Laurie was born to Dino and Sharon Cunial on August 18, 1957 in Susanville, Cal. She grew up in Manteca, attending Manteca schools and graduated from Manteca High School in 1975. In college she studied interior design, earning her bachelor’s degree from CSU Fresno in 1979. She met the love of her life, Kelly Berg, while working at an interior design shop in Fresno.

Laurie and Kelly were married June 15, 1985 in Fresno and resided there for 15 years. They had three children: Aaron (deceased), Jason, and Kelsey. During that time, Laurie found her true calling in teaching, earning her credential and working for the Fresno Unified School District.

In 2000, the Berg family moved to Bakersfield and Laurie began teaching for the Rosedale Union School District, where she made numerous friends. She loved her students and they loved her.

Laurie was taken suddenly from this world early on the morning of Friday, Oct. 20. She loved the beach, hiking, wine tasting, the mountains, and any reason to bring people together. Most of all, she cherished her family, both near and extended. Her love for her children was so evident in the way she answered the phone when they called: “Hi, hon!”

Laurie is survived by her husband of 24 years, Kelly Berg; her children, Jason, Kelsey and Nicole; grandson Cole; parents, Dino and Sharon Cunial; grandmothers, Marsha Dorman and Nadine Prior; sister, Julie Ross; brother and sister-in-law, Danny and Annie Cunial; numerous cousins, aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, and dear friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Attn: Donor Services, P.O. Box 650309, Dallas, TX 75265-0309 or to Patriot Elementary School PTC, 4410 Old Farm Road, Bakersfield, CA 93312.

The depth of loss we feel at Laurie’s passing is immeasurable. May she rest in eternal peace.
