Manfred was a true patriot. He loved his birth country, Germany, and his home country, having served in the Navy and Coast Guard for 32 years.  He was extremely proud of his service to the United of States of America.  He was stationed in Alameda and did a few brief tours of duty. He was also an Alameda County Reserve Sheriff for over 20 years. He worked as a mechanic in the service and after leaving the military continued that work as a master mechanic in the trucking industry. He had a wonderful sense of humor and often found himself laughing at his own jokes. He was a true out doorsman and loved to camp, hunt, fish, and do archery. In his younger years, Millie and he were in three different bowling leagues at one time. His family was very dear to him. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
