Yes on Q effort surpasses $100K to push passage
Manteca businesses, labor groups, firefighters, local residents, youth sports organizations, and builders have a lot riding on Measure Q on Tuesday’s ballot. As of Oct. 27, the Yes on Q Committee has now raised $103,549.30 to fund its campaign to gain passage of the 20-year long three-quarter cent sales tax on Nov. 5.

Manuel Victor Cardoza Jr., born on May 30, 1932, passed away on October 11, 2024, after 92 vibrant years as a resident of Manteca and Ripon. 

   He is survived by his beloved wife, Karen, with whom he shared 65 wonderful years. Manuel's legacy continues through his son, Cameron Cardoza, and his cherished grandchildren, Forest and Cassidy. He was preceded in death by his son, Miles, and his two brothers, Serafine and Albert Cardoza.

   Manuel proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict where he was highly decorated. Following his military service, he became an accomplished ironworker, contributing to the construction industry with pride, primarily at Midstate Steel as a respected union member.  Before his passing, Manuel was the longest-living male member of the Spring Creek Golf and Country Club in Ripon, where he found immense joy on the golf course. He loved to travel, with a special fondness for cruises and visiting his home country of Portugal, where he cherished reconnecting with his roots.

Known for his easy-going nature and great sense of humor, Manuel was a fun-loving family man who brought joy to everyone around him. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends, but his spirit and love will forever remain in their hearts.

   P.L. Fry and Son is honored to be serving the Cardoza family. A visitation will be on Wednesday, November 6, at 10:00 a.m. followed by a prayer service at 11:00 a.m. held at P.L. Fry and Son Chapel, 2980 N. Union Rd., Manteca, Ca. He will be laid to rest at St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Escalon, Ca.
