Margarita Gonzalez passed away June 5, 2024 at the age of 92. She was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother.

   A resident of Manteca for more than 60 years, she was known in her community for her dedication to teaching the gospel to countless area residents. She was known to her family for making the best tortillas and enchiladas. She was kind and welcoming to all.

   She was born in Torreón, Coahuila, Mexico to Arturo and Aurora Vazquez. She moved to California after marrying Antonio Gonzalez. She worked at Eckert Cold Storage for more than 30 years.

Margarita was among the founders of the Mexican American Catholic Organization in Manteca in the early 1970s. She and her husband were longtime active members of St.

Anthony’s Catholic Church in Manteca and our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Lathrop. Margarita was heavily involved In coordinating spiritual retreats and spent many years guiding couples with pre-marital counseling.

   She is survived by her children, Andres of Manteca, Blanca (Craig) of San Diego, Jose Antonio (Coleen) of Roseville; six grandchildren, Damien, Veronica, Samuel, Sarah, Gabriel and Alexander; and a great-grandchild, Mirabella. She was predeceased by her husband.

She is also survived by her siblings Enriqueta Garcia of Manteca, Maria Luisa Jaro of Torreón, Victoria Castañeda, of Torreón, and Daniel Vazquez of Torreón.

   A Rosary will be held Friday, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 525 E. North Street, Manteca, CA, followed by a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at St. John’s Catholic

Cemetery, 17871 S. Carrolton Road,  Escalon, CA.
