Merrill Bruce Gadbut, 79, passed away on July 13, 2025, in Manteca, California. A resident of Ripon for more than 42 years, Merrill was born on August 18, 1945, in Escalon, California to Paul and Wilma Gadbut.
Raised on a dairy in Manteca, Merrill graduated from Manteca High School with the Class of 1963. After various jobs in the trucking industry, he embarked on a career that would span more than five decades as the owner and operator of Cal-Ag Transport. Through his dedication and work ethic, he built a respected business that served the agricultural community with reliability and pride. His commitment to excellence and his reputation for
integrity made him a trusted figure in the industry. Known for his unwavering dependability and strong work ethic, Merrill was someone others could always count on. Whether in business or personal life, he exemplified honesty and loyalty - qualities that left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Outside of work, Merrill had a deep passion for vintage Fords. He especially cherished his 1932 Ford Roadster, which reflected both his appreciation for craftsmanship and his love of classic cars. His enthusiasm for vintage cars brought him joy and connected him with
fellow enthusiasts who shared his admiration for automotive history.
Merrill is survived by his brother Melvin Gadbut and sister-in-law Debbie; nieces Beverly Springer (Mark), Susan Anderson, nephew Garrett Gadbut, niece Sarah Gadbut, and great-nephew Kevin Black (Patricia). He was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Wilma Gadbut, and his sister Barbara Anderson.
May the memory of Merrill Gadbut bring comfort to those who knew him and serve as a reminder of a life lived with integrity and purpose.
A Memorial Service will be held on August 4, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. at Deegan-Ripon Memorial Chapel, 111 Palm Avenue, Ripon, CA. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the American Cancer Society, or a charity of your choice.
