Richard E Barber obit

Richard E. Barber, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on July 15, 2025, in Manteca, California. He was born on March 19, 1937, in West Seattle, Washington, the son of Richard William Barber and Edith Evelyn Walker Barber. He was the brother to the late Mildred Revels, LaVerne Francesconi, and Donna Turner. He was a resident of Manteca for the past 58 years.

Richard was married to the love of his life, Helen, for 58 years. Together, they raised four children; Tina Barber, Lisa Barber, (Felix), Cynthia Arizmendi, and the late Richard Manuel Barber. He was also a cherished grandfather to Patricia, (Joe), Michael, Matthew, Feliz, Josephina, Antonio, Natalie, and Genevieve, (Alex), and a proud great-grandfather to Niko.

A dedicated educator, Richard worked at East Union High School for 25 years teaching ceramics, leather, and Industrial Arts, where he left a lasting impact on generations of students through his passion for hands-on learning and practical skills. As a convert to Catholicism, Richard was an active member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. For a time, he served as Eucharistic minister for the 7 a.m. mass. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, and an avid fan of EWTN. He remained active in his spiritual community throughout his life.

Richard was known for his kind nature, steady support and love for his family, and the simple joys of life. He was a model train enthusiast and a true handyman. As well as for his children and grandchildren, the neighborhood kids came to rely on him to help them fix their bikes and toys. In retirement, Richard found immense joy in babysitting his grandchildren. He also enjoyed spending time

relaxing outside in the backyard garden that he and his wife Helen created together. He would help maintain the garden by pruning the roses. Richard was so loved by all the members of his family and will remain in our hearts always. He will be greatly missed!
