Virginia Marlene Newman, 90, of Manteca, CA, passed away surrounded by family on February 20, 2026 in Ceres, CA, at the home of her daughter.

Virginia was born in Hutchinson, KS on June 18, 1935 to Henry D. Vogt and Minnie Darlene (Reed) Vogt. She moved to San Diego County at the age of five. She graduated from Kearny High School, Linda Vista, CA and studied for one year at the University of San Diego.

Virginia was married to Alvin Lee Newman on June 18, 1954; they were married 53 years.  At an early age she professed her faith in Jesus Christ, and was baptized for the remission of her sins in 1961 in El Cajon, CA. She was a faithful member of the church of Christ for the rest of her life.

Virginia worked at making a beautiful home and raising four children. She enjoyed cake decorating, painting, antiquing, and especially gardening. Her garden brought her much joy, and the family spent many happy hours there over the years. She was also active for several years in Love Thy Neighbor, a group dedicated to helping the needy.

She will be remembered for her wisdom and the counseling she offered to many younger women in being a Christian wife and mother.

Virginia was given to hospitality, and her home was always open to young people. It was a place of warmth and safety. Even up to the time she left her home, a group of young men gathered in her home monthly to play games.

Virginia loved to discuss the Bible, and her children and grandchildren enjoyed learning from her deep Bible knowledge.

Virginia is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Al; her father and mother; and two brothers, David and Richard.  She is survived by one brother, Gary; four children, Darrell Newman and his wife Shaleen, Cynthia Meents and her husband Howard, Chris Reichmuth and her husband Bob, and Jennifer Turner and her husband Terry; Ten grandchildren, Alyssa, Benjamin, Aaron, Amanda, Ryan, Tamra, Nathan, Caleb, Justin, and Jenna; and twelve great-grandchildren, Bianca, Jack, Bree, Lilyana, Noah, Balin, Gwenevere, Nova, Rhett, Adeline, Brody, and Jade; and many honorary children and grandchildren.  All who knew her loved her.
