Board honoring top Ripon spellers tonight

Several local youngsters recently competed in the 2015 San Joaquin County Spelling Bee Championships.

Ripon Unified Superintendent Siegrid “Ziggy” Robeson will pay special recognition to these five youngsters at tonight’s school board meeting.

Included are Patrick Caldwell (Ripon Elementary), Kalista Yan (Ripon Elementary), Brendan Lan (Ripon Elementary), Jeremiah Reynoso (Park View) and Dylan Dunning (Colony Oak).

They’ll be honored at the 7 p.m. open session in the Council Chamber, 259 N. Wilma Ave.

The Spelling Bee was held early last month at the San Joaquin County Office of Education’s Wentworth Education Center.

Robeson will also recognize Harvest High’s Joshua Eberhardt, who received his diploma from the RUSD continuation school.

She and Trustee Kit Oase, in addition, will give special recognition to Ernie Tyhurst, who served as board president for the past year. Oase was appointed board president at last month’s reorganization session.

In other agenda items:

uA public hearing is set for California Connections Academy @ Ripon on the request of a renewal of the existing waiver of the pupil to teacher ratio, increasing from 25 to 1 to 27.5 to 1 for the next two school years (2016-17, 2017-18).

uRobeson will provide an update on the Colony Oak Elementary School project.

uShe’ll also present North Star Engineering Inc. proposal to provide surveying services to RUSD for the Colony Oak project.

uDistrict officials will request board-approval for date changes to this year’s calendar – specifically, July 4 (Independence Day), Dec. 26 (Christmas) and Jan. 2 (New Year) to align with the national holidays.
