Preston Castle in Ione a former state reform school for young offenders 47 miles northeast of Manteca in the Sierra foothills has drawn ghost hunters from far and wide. The annual Halloween Haunt that is typically a fun scare tour is unable to be conducted this year due to circumstances beyond the Preston Castle Foundations control. In its place, on Halloween, Oct. 31, the castle will be lit up and decorated in all its glory. You can see it from the outside only. IONE – The premise itself was enough to send chills down my spine. I wanted to know more about a Manteca-based paranormal investigation group for a story that I was planning around Halloween, which was fast approaching at the time. Rather than simply giving me the typical over-the-phone answers or a quick in-person interview, they made an offer that was simply too good to pass up.
