The Valley Oak League season is no longer in its beginning stages and the Manteca Buffaloes took a step towards distancing themselves from the rest of the league, pouncing on the host Sonora Wildcats 42-13 Friday for a VOL statement.

The Buffaloes (4-0 VOL, 7-0 overall) took full advantage of the opportunity to reveal their championship intentions to the rest of the league, handling the Wildcats with ease after building a comfortable 21-7 halftime lead.

Manteca reaped the benefits of solid play from its quarterback Matt Burrows, who completed 63-percent of his passes for 144 yards and three scores. Burrows hooked up with Michael Timmins and David Farrington on touchdown tosses.

Manteca’s ground-game held its own as well, racking up over 225 yards, most of which coming from Robert Ladiges (20 carries, 166 yards) who scored three times.

The Buffaloes will have to avoid looking past the Lathrop Spartans in anticipation of their always-festive meeting with the Oakdale Mustangs. Before the two most recent Sac-Joaquin Section champions out of the VOL meet, Manteca will have to handle a Spartans squad that is coming off a tough 15-3 loss to the Weston Ranch Cougars.

Manteca will travel to Lathrop for Friday’s matchup and play host to the Mustangs Oct. 29.
