JUNIOR VARSITY FOOTBALL: Ripon loses squeaker to Sonora in non-league play

RIPON – Ripon’s Jack Manning ran for a 20-yard second-quarter touchdown Friday night to came within a point of visiting Sonora but the Indians would come no closer than that in an 8-7 loss to the Wildcats in junior varsity non-league action at Stouffer Field. 

 Manning totaled 72 yards on seven carries, Dylan De Graff was 6 of 8 passing for 46 yards and Ethan Day picked up 27 yards on 10 carries. 

 Leovanni Ochoa led Ripon with nine tackles and two fumbles recovery and Day added eight stops.


Manteca 60, Downey 8

MODESTO – The visiting Buffaloes junior varsity scored 42 second-quarter points and ran for more than 400 yards at Chuck Hughes Stadium. 

Khalid Robinson was the workhorse for Manteca, gaining 11 carries for 170 yards and an 18-yard scoring run and he pulled in a 23-yard scoring pass from Jonathan Rosas (6 of 9 passing, 113 yards, two touchdowns). Alijah Cota (11 carries, 74 yards) had touchdown runs of 2, 5 and 9 yards, Dominic Alvarez (four carries, 79 yards) scored from 2 and 29 yards out and Alejandro Tornero (92 yards rushing) scored on a 78-yard touchdown run and a 30-yard pass from Jonathan Rosas.

Cota (five tackles) and Alvarez (four tackles) each made an interception and Omar Villanueva added three stops.

Sierra 51, 

Central Valley 21

CERES – The Timberwolves’ Marcelo Morales ran all over the host Hawks.

Morales ran for 233 yards on 19 carries with 1-, 7- and 65-yard scoring runs. Luke Abrew (3 of 7 passing, 70 yards; five carries, 40 yards) had a touchdown pass of 25 yards to Andrew Magana and a scoring run of 4 yards; Nikko Nunez (eight carries, 29 yards) scored in a pair of 1-yard runs and Sierra was awarded a safety when Central Valley snapped the ball out of the end zone.

Seth Villanueva was 7 for 7 on conversion kicks.

Ivan Vieira, Josh Martinez, Ryan Torres and Ben Wheeler made four tackles apiece for Sierra and Victor Serna made an interception.


East Union 48,

 Mountain House 0

MOUNTAIN HOUSE – Luke Weaver and Adam Tinnerello combined for three Lancers scores and Johntae Maggard added two touchdown runs in the blowout win.

All three of Tinnerello’s receptions from Weaver (6 for 11 passing, 131 yards) were good for touchdowns of 21, 27 and 37 yards and Maggard (10 carries, 87 yards) had 1- and 21-yard touchdown runs.

Payton Graham added a 1-yard touchdown run and East Union forced a safety.

Tinnerello made six tackles with Graham and Xavier Mendez making five stops apiece.
